water

After 5 years of watching youtube aquascapers i realized i’m an adult and that i can get an aquarium if i want to. i cashed out some of my $BNB earnings and bought a used aquael shrimp set (20l) which contained a betta before i got my hands on it. It was cheap, barely used and i got to pet a smooth collie at the house where i picked it up! overall great deal. cleaned it when i got home, tossed out the filter, kept the light and heater, and got to work. I filmed the trips to the fish store and i’m going to try to edit it this week and have it posted by the end of it. I was going to film setting up the tank but both of my camera batteries were dead and it was already late when i started so i didn’t. not that you’re missing out on anything, i was rinsing substrate for 2 hours. For this tank i used a big piece of driftwood, fluval stratum, cryptocoryne (funny because i used cryptocurrency earnings buying everything), hornwort, ludwigia repens, and pygmy chain sword.

IMG_6368.JPG

Only problem i’ve run into after almost a week is that I think i’ve overfertilized a bit. My cryptocoryne started to rot just two or three days after planting. First i assumed it was because of its close proximity to my heater but later realized i got the fertilizer dosage wrong. I’ve done small water changes just to clear it out but yesterday i did a 50%, got all the affected leaves out, moved the heater and hoped for the best. We’ll see in a couple days but i think it’s going to be fine! I have no plans on putting livestock in earlier than a month from now so i’m allowing myself to get all parameters fine and everything to take it’s time while learning as much as possible about my little desk oasis. I think i’ll add another light soon but i think we’re good for now. Let me know what you think in the comments! Hope you’re having a good day ♡

hi - here's my recommendations

I’m not giving you any excuses to why i’ve been gone for so long, you’ve heard them all before and they’re the same as last year. Let’s just JUMP INTO IT.

After three years of complaining about the awful value of an audible membership i got pulled into it. Paul Holes and Jim Clemente have an audible exclusive together, appropriately named ‘Evil Has A Name’ where they talk about the Golden State Killer case. Jim Clemente is a retired FBI profiler and Paul Holes.. is Paul Holes. I couldn’t put my phone down after pressing play the first time, LOVED it. Hearing two professionals talking about a case they have a lot of insight into is very interesting even for someone who knows pretty much everything publicly available about the murder/rape/burglary spree. It’s worth a listen.

Another audio book i’ve listened to this month is Jenna Miscavige Hill’s ‘Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape’. It’s about her life as the niece of the leader of scientology and a Sea Org member. It’s terrifying to think that this cult has pretty much free reign to use and abuse people and still keep their tax exempt status.

I found myself binging the entire first season of Leah Remini’s ‘Scientology and the Aftermath’ when I was in L.A. living on Fountain Ave two years ago. I hated walking past the big blue hospital building and seeing all the Org members running to and from the PAC base, with the determination of someone who think they’re saving the planet. Not to belittle anyone or their beliefs but it weighed heavy on my heart after hearing all the stories and testimonies. Faith should never hurt or tear you down. I finished the second season and her book on the flight home, and the third season this week. I’ve never felt so much watching a documentary series before. The strength of Mike Rinder and the people that have left so far is unfathomable. If me talking about it doesn’t make you want to watch it, the 9,2 IMDB rating should.

That’s all for today. Follow me on a magical mystical ride of wanting to blog but forgetting to blog and feeling bad about it! Love ya stinky.

welcome to 2018, blog

First post of 2018. In an attempt to find the motivation to blog more, let's introduce some new things!

Monthly favorites + new things: every month i'll introduce (at least) two favorite things. Snacks, skincare, songs, tech, whatever. At the same time i'll introduce two new things that i've just started using with a follow up by the end of the month. Let's get to the content!

AAAAAAND MY FEBRUARY FAVORITES ARE...

Papa Recipe Manuca Honey Black Honey Mask

Papa Recipe Manuca Honey Black Honey Mask

IMG_0824.JPG

So i've been R A V I N G about this mask and i've probably told every single person I know about it. Winter is in full effect here in the north and with that comes the THIRST for moisture. And like a gift from God himself, this mask shows up. I haven't been this excited over a sheet mask EVER. I've tried their other masks (Bombee Honey Butter Mask, and Bombee Rose Gold Honey Mask) and they're all AMAZING but the black honey one is something special. Papa Recipe is a korean brand, who put pride in making products suitable for any skin type, even the most sensitive. Using soothing ingredients like manuca honey and bee propolis, they're of the firm belief that great recepies aren't to be found in an office or a lab, but in nature. I can't say I fully agree, lab made chemicals are a staple in my daily routine, but I still think it's kinda cute. They smell SOOOO good (I wish they made fragrances too), are PACKED with essence, and actually make a noticable difference in the hydration level in the skin. Their products are available on amazon (where you can buy in bulk!) or in Sephora stores (and online) here in Sweden.

Second favorite is all over youtube at the moment, and I picked it up THE DAY my local Sephora got it in stock. An instant favorite, the NARS Radiant Longwear Foundation. Mont Blanc isn't a perfect color match for me (way too pink) but it's the closest we get in store here so i'm making it work. Full coverage, lightweight, looks like skin and gives you an airbrushed finish like nothing else. Doesn't end up too greasy by the end of the day if you powder well. Doesn't emphasize texture, which is incredibly important for me at the moment since i've been breaking out like crazy. Here's two blurry front camera pictures as proof:

IMG_0920.JPG

And the two new things! Not very interesting this month, i'm not very excited to try out new things considering the entire breakout situation. First thing is Armani Sì Passione. I'm not crazy about the original Sì fragrance, but the Passione version is RIGHT up my alley. Anyone who knows me know that i'm interested in anything involving blackcurrant. From the Armani website "Bright and fresh in its initial impression, Sì Passione opens with notes of spicy pink pepper, like a burst of adrenaline. After initially drawing attention, sparkling and radiant pear brightens the iconic juicy blackcurrant to add boldness. A floral heart beats passionately with rose and feminine jasmine to create a powerful scent, like a seemingly fragile woman who shows incredible strength when guided by passion. The addition of heliotrope makes this perfume addictive and acts as an invitation to self-indulgence and pleasure. The warm and sensual vanilla and cedarwood dry down mirrors the self-assurance that a swipe of red lipstick can instantly give the wearer. " It's a cute, work appropriate scent perfect for spring. It's going to be nice to be able to give my Jo Malone Blackberry&Bay a break!

Next new thing is the Simple Skincare Cleansing Facial Wipes. Simple Skincare just got introduced into the Swedish market and I was excited to try these out. They're okay, fragrance free and gentle. I haven't been wearing a lot of makeup so I haven't had the possibility to test these out in proper conditions but i'll report back when i've used up all the wipes :)

So... See you tomorrow with another freshly baked blog post :)

NEW ITEMS: conceal, don't feel

Sweden has been incredibly dull and grey lately and i've been lacking the energy to cover up the most prominent piece of proof of exhaustion in my face: my dark circles. I've been struggling with purple half moons under my eyes for the longest time (part genetics, part dehydration) and i've been trying out color correction before but most of the concealers i've tried have been a bit too thick to wear on a daily basis. Unless creasing is your thing. I went to my local Urban Decay counter and literally begged for the makeup artist to help me with the situation in my face and she did. I went with a fluffy domed concealer brush and a light pink color corrector.

IMG_3343.JPG

I've only tried them out twice but so far I like them! I'm used to flat concealer brushes and having something like this gives you a softer application. The color corrector is a thin fluid with good coverage that i can't wait to try out. I've mainly used it with a bb-cream and powder on top and it's been holding up nicely! Let me know if you want me to post a demo :)

SEPHORA CREAM LIP STAIN: REVIEW + SWATCHES

For as long as I've been interested in makeup, I've been hesitant when it comes to wearing lipstick. I have a scar on my lip line and feel like vivid colors draw attention to my jawline and chin, and those two are the things I'm the most insecure about. Finding tones that suit me has been something I've been struggling with for a good while, until I discovered reds with an orange undertone. Or pretty much anything orange. I haven't been very experimental though, and mostly kept myself to glosses or an ombre look with the lip line undefined. Until now. I mean, I've worn the occasional Kat Von D lolita lip, and some matte finish lipsticks, but the liquid mattes haven't been a staple in my collection.

Buying my first shade in this specific collection was just a spontaneous cash register-display pick up, and it was a color that was far away from my usual comfort zone of oranges or sheers. It was a purplish grey, but still nude. Very opaque, very out there. I didn't know what to expect from something labeled as a "cream lip stain" but I didn't expect a liquid lipstick. And on top of that, I definitely didn't expect finding the liquid lipstick that would make me step right in to the matte world.

Meet Sephora Cream Lip Stain. My new addiction.

After that one shade I knew I had to get more. I zoomed in on all the nudes. These are my three latest pickups! They're opaque in one sweep, dry down to a matte but don't get anywhere near sticky or crumbly, and you can reapply them after eating without ending up with a patchy and gross looking mess. They do hold up well through most foods and drinks though, and don't leave your lips feeling crusty afterwards. The formula is creamy and thin and the best I've tried. And they're affordable!

REVIEW AND SWATCHES: KAT VON D + TOO FACED BETTER TOGETHER COLLECTION

The only reason I went into my local Sephora yesterday was to pick up a face mask to prepare for my weekend and I left the store feeling guilty and happy, with a big chunk of my bank account in a paper bag with black and white stripes. EU releases are often very delayed, overpriced and a guessing game. Getting a date out of a Sephora employee is an impossible task so if you're like me, it's better to just stop by and browse through the selection, hoping that you were lucky enough to time a new drop. I didn't even have this particular collection on my mind, but when I saw the display I picked up the things I found interesting and immediately started to convince myself that it was a necessary purchase even though it was far from it. SO... let's talk about the bad things first to get that over with, shall we?

I'm pretty new to Kat Von D eyeshadows, my first purchase from the brand was the metal matte palette after eyeing it for months and finally grabbing it on sale. I wasn't worried about that portion to be quite honest, and I was right. The dud in this collection is the Too Faced part. I've never encountered a brand with such inconsistencies in their eyeshadow formula. Take the Chocolate Bar lineup as an example. The original is great. The semi-sweet and bon bon variants are another story. AND THIS FREAKING MATTE NIGHTMARE WITH MICROGLITTER THAT THEY INSIST ON PUTTING IN EVERY SINGLE PALETTE THEY MAKE. Unusable. OK, I take that back. All Nighter from the funfetti palette is the only creamy, blendable matte with microglitter from the brand, that I've tried at least. The Sweet Peach is great. The 2016 Christmas collection minis are great. The mattes in this one are not. They're very smooth but they're almost impossible to transfer to the skin and have almost no color payoff. I really tried to stack it up to get a good swatch but it took a good 30 seconds to even get them to show up on my pasty skin.

Another minus is the color selection. There's not one single transition shade in here and it makes them less attractive to travel with. Considering the size of the palettes (lots of empty space) I don't really understand this. The theme is "better together" and it's hard to get a full look even if you use both of them. The heart shaped packaging is cute as hell but I wish it was a bit more optimized. In it's current state, it's a bit too bulky for me.

IMG_3251.JPG

SO: on to the positives. The color payoff and blendability of the shimmers and every single shade on the KVD side is A+. I like all the colors and they all add onto my collection in a nice way even though they need additional help for a full look. It's cute as hell. I want to BATHE in friendspiration, a copper/gold baby. Heart of gold is a light green with a gold sheen unlike anything else I have in my reasonably big collection. Better together, a cool greyish purple metallic perfect for a smokey look. Swoon is something unusual, a red, which is hard enough to formulate, with a beautiful metallic twist. Lovestruck is your classic champagne, perfect for the browbone. And lastly, darling. I'm OBSESSED with this one. A taupe metallic shade that I'll hit pan on in about a month, probably.

I hate to admit that even though a lot of improvements could be done, this cutely shaped little treasure has my heart. OK, let's move on to the other part of this collection. But first, some pictures:

The other part of this collection (not counting the better than sex/tattoo liner combo), is a cute little pouch with the brand founders little fur babies on them! In the pouch, you'll find four minis, and three of them are exclusive to this collection. From KVD: a studded kiss lipstick in a brown nude shade with gold glitter flecks, called 'muse' and a berry red everlasting liquid matte called 'XO'. Both are exclusives!

IMG_3227.JPG

And on the TF side: A love flush blush in the shade 'so happy together', a buttery, shimmery barbie pink dream, and a Candlelight glow highlighter duo in 'rosy glow'. The blush is an exclusive and made me, queen of orange blush, wear pink for once. And I loved every second of it. The highlighter is another story. I've never tried the original but it doesn't come off as rosy at all to me, and it applied horribly on my skin. It was very very patchy, and made it look like I had tons of texture, which I don't. This might have to do with the foundation/powder/primer I was wearing but NO formula of highlighter has ever looked bad with that combo before so I doubt it. I'll try it out again tomorrow to give it another shot but if it acts up again it's going straight into the trash. I find it strange that a product that already is out on the market can perform so horribly while the exclusives all went above and beyond, but I'm no expert.

So, my final verdict. As a collectors item, sure, get the pouch. But the palette is more than a collectors item. It's a great add-on if you already have the basics. And it's fun. It's cute. And most of all: it's heartwarming to see a collab focused on friendship. The makeup market and community isn't always the friendliest and even though it's all capitalism, I'm buying into it. And I'm happy. Because we truly are better together.

night time skincare routine

one of my most requested posts of all time is finally here, my skincare routine! i'm splitting this up into three parts: my night routine, my day routine, and masks. i know i use a lot of products but this is what i feel works the best for my skin at the moment. some things are things i tend to switch out pretty often because i keep getting them in my subscription boxes, such as face washes/cleansers and moisturizers, and some are things i can't live without and always repurchase when i run out. here we go!

Current makeup remover/face cleanser: the SKIN&CO Truffle Therapy cleansing oil! Doesn't clog my pores, removes EVERYTHING, makes your skin feel smooth and fresh after. Got this in a subscription box but definitely repurchasing.

After getting my face nice and clean i go in with the Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 10% Toning Complex. I use this two to three times a week as a toner to exfoliate and brighten my face. This is great for oily skin, getting the gunk out and preventing your pores from getting clogged.

On days where I don't use the AHA toner I go in with the emulsion and toner from the korean brand IT'S SKIN. I love their entire hyaluronic acid range. GREAT for oily skin!

After toning, it's time for a serum! Current one is this from Avancè+. It's OK. Nothing special. Again, one of those subscription box items. When im out of this i'm going back to the IT'S SKIN Hyaluronic Acid Serum.

Final step: night cream! The Rodial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Night Cream. I picked this up on sale and got a great deal, but damn, it's not worth the hype. It smells great and makes me feel ESPENZIVE though so it's all good. It's a shame that all of the good ingredients (mainly the retinol) is at the bottom of the ingredient list but I guess ~*CeLeb FaVoRiTeS*~ often get away with just that.

Tell me if you want more posts like this! Part two will be up sometime this weekend. I'm planning on spacing out these bigger posts and post them once a week, probably Thursdays.

Until next time: stay safe, eat well and don't forget to wash your face before you go to bed! <3

new addition to the palette family: the Too Faced 'Funfetti' palette! nothing crazy or special about the color selection in this palette but the pale purple and the cute packaging (MAJOR + points for the heart shaped mirror!) caught my attention and after thinking about it all day I caved in and picked it up on my lunch break. i'm off wednesday + thursday so i'll report back with my thoughts on this by the end of the week. I haven't worn any of the shades yet but swatching them makes me really happy. Too Faced tend to be very inconsistent in their formulas from palette to palette, and both this and the sweet peach one have surprised me in a positive way formula-wise. it's soft, buttery (sorry for using the worst and most overused phrase possible but...) , blendable and the pigmentation is even and good. can't wait to play around and put funfetti on my face!
